قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ : قَالَ صَعْصَعَةُ بْنُ صُوحَانَ لِابْنِ زَيْدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صُوحَانَ : " أَنَا كُنْتُ أَحَبَّ إِلَى أَبِيكَ مِنْكَ ، وَأَنْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنَ ابْنِي ، خَصْلَتَانِ أُوصِيكَ بِهِمَا : خَالِصِ الْمُؤْمِنَ ، وَخَالِقِ الْفَاجِرَ ، فَإِنَّ الْفَاجِرَ يَرْضَى مِنْكَ بِالْخُلُقِ الْحَسَنِ ، وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نُخَالِصَ الْمُؤْمِنَ " .
It is narrated from al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sa'sa'ah bin Suhan said to Ibn Zayd, that is, Ibn Suhan: "I was more beloved to your father than you were, and you are dearer to me than my own son. I enjoin upon you two qualities, so adopt them: be sincere in heart and a true friend to the believer, and treat the sinful and wicked person with good manners, for the sinful man is pleased and content with you simply through your good manners, whereas complete sincerity and purity of heart towards the people of faith is binding upon us and is our duty."
Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded this athar in his 'al-Musannaf', and its chain is of hasan (good) grade.
