حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ ، ثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَعْوَرُ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ هَرَبَ عَبْدٌ مِنْ رِزْقِهِ كَمَا يَهْرُبُ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ ، لَأَتَاهُ رِزْقُهُ كَمَا يَأْتِيهِ الْمَوْتُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a servant were to flee from his provision as he flees from death, his provision would certainly reach him just as death reaches him."
Imam Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" (1/244) and Imam al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9831). There is criticism of its chain on account of Uthman bin Ata al-Khurasani; however, on the basis of supporting reports narrated from other Companions, Allamah al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) declared it sahih (authentic) in "Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah" (952).
