وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : إِنَّمَا الدُّنْيَا مِثْلُ الثَّغَبِ ذَهَبَ صَفْوُهُ ، وَبَقِيَ كَدَرُهُ .
3188 \ 2 - حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ، ثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : ذَهَبَ صَفْوُ الدُّنْيَا فَلَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُ إِلَّا الْكُدْرَةُ ، وَالْمَوْتُ الْيَوْمَ تُحْفَةٌ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ .
3188 \ 3 - وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، ثَنَا زَائِدَةُ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ ، بِهِ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Indeed, the world is like that (rain)water (collected on a mountain top) whose clear and pure part has gone, and now only its murkiness and sediment remain."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) (through another chain) that he said: "The purity and clearness of the world have departed, so now nothing remains in it except murkiness and turbidity, and in this age death is a precious gift for every Muslim."
Imam al-Harith transmitted a similar report with his chain from Abu Juhayfah; however, he did not mention the name of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) (as a narrator) in it.
