حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ ، ثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الْبَلْخِيُّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مَنْ يَزْهَدُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَادْنُوا مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ يُلَقَّى الْحِكْمَةَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see a person who practises detachment from the world (zuhd), stay close to him (that is, keep his company), for he is granted wisdom and insight."
In the chain of this report, Umar bin Harun al-Balkhi is a liar and matruk (abandoned) narrator, so this hadith is severely weak. Ibn Majah recorded it (4101), and al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman (10051).
