وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا حَضَرَهُ الْمَوْتُ ، قَالَ : أَمُوتُ عَلَى أَمْرٍ لَمْ يَسُنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَلَا عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَمَا أَنِّي لَمْ أَدَعْ صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا مَا فِي سَيْفِي هَذَا ، فَبِيعُوهُ وَكَفِّنُونِي بِهِ .
It is narrated from Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) that when the time of his death drew near, he said: "I am dying in a state whose way was neither established by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) nor adopted by Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). Take note! I have left nothing in the form of gold or silver (wealth and goods) except what lies in the value of this sword of mine, so sell it and prepare my shroud from its price."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), and Imam Musaddad recorded it in his Musnad.
