قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُقْرِئُ ، ثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، أَنَا شُرَحْبِيلُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : " لَخَيْرٌ أَعْمَلُهُ الْيَوْمَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ مِثْلَيْهِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لِأَنَّا كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُهِمُّنَا الْآخِرَةُ وَلَا تُهِمُّنَا الدُّنْيَا ، وَإِنَّا الْيَوْمَ قَدْ مَالَتْ بِنَا الدُّنْيَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "A good deed that I do today is dearer to me than two like it done in the blessed time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because when we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), all our concern and attention was directed towards the Hereafter and we had no care for this world, whereas today the world has fully inclined us towards it (and we have become caught up in its trials)."
The chain of this hadith is jayyid (good), and Imam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad.
