قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ : ثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، ثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْأَرْقَمِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : إِذَا مَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا تَصْدِيقَهُ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ تَعَالَى ، وَلَمْ تَجِدُوا فِي أَخْلَاقِ النَّاسِ حَسَنًا فَإِنَّهُ كَاذِبٌ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "When I narrate to you a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you do not find its confirmation in the Book of Allah Almighty, nor does it accord with the best of people's character, then it is surely a lie."
