It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The religion of Islam will prevail to such an extent that it will cross beyond the bounds of the seas, and the seas will be crossed on horseback in the path of Allah Almighty. Then after these sincere ones, people will come who will recite the Qur'an and will arrogantly say: 'We have recited the Qur'an; now who is a better reciter than us? Who has more understanding of the religion than us? And who is more knowledgeable than us?'" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to his Companions and asked: "Is there any good in these people?" The Companions said: No (O Messenger of Allah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will be from among you, that is, they will be people of this very Ummah, and it is they who will be the fuel of Hell."
Ishaq bin Rahwayh narrated a similar report through Ja'far bin Awn from Musa bin Ubaydah.
