It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Whoever claims that he is a (perfect) believer is a disbeliever; whoever holds the notion that he is of the people of Paradise is of the people of Hell; and whoever supposes that he is a great scholar is ignorant." The narrator said: A man argued with him and said: "Even if you people take away power and rule (on account of your leadership), Paradise is still ours." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever claims that he is of the people of Paradise is of the people of Hell.'"
Musnad al-Harith: 3018. The chain of this narration is munqati' (broken), because Qatadah's hearing from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established.
