وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمِ بْنِ الْبَرِيدِ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كُلُّ خَلَّةٍ يُطْبَعُ عَلَيْهَا ، أَوْ يُطْوَى عَلَيْهَا الْمُؤْمِنُ ، إِلَّا الْخِيَانَةَ ، وَالْكَذِبَ شَكَّ عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ .
2918 \ 2 - وَقَالَ الْبَزَّارُ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الصَّائِغُ ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، بِهَذَا ، وَقَالَ : لَا نَعْلَمُ أَسْنَدَهُ مَرْفُوعًا إِلَّا عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ .
2918 \ 2 - وَقَالَ الْبَزَّارُ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الصَّائِغُ ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، بِهَذَا ، وَقَالَ : لَا نَعْلَمُ أَسْنَدَهُ مَرْفُوعًا إِلَّا عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The nature of the believer can be moulded upon every kind of habit and trait, or every kind of quality can be ingrained in him, except treachery and lying." (The narrator Ali bin Hashim had some doubt in mentioning these two.)
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith, and Imam al-Bazzar, after narrating the same from Dawud bin Rushayd through Ibrahim bin Ziyad al-Sa'igh, stated explicitly: We know of no narrator other than Ali bin Hashim who narrated this hadith as marfu' (traced back) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
