It is narrated from Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata: After finishing the Fajr prayer we went out for the funeral of Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him). At that time al-Walid bin Utbah was in charge of the people (as governor of Madinah). He intended to lead the funeral prayer, so Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) stood up and called out with all his strength in a loud voice: "Do not offer the prayer over your dead until the sun has (risen and) become high." So the governor and all the other people sat down (to wait).
This chain is hasan (good) and mawquf (a Companion's statement). Imam Malik also recorded in al-Muwatta, through another chain, something similar from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
