It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): We were present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him; he had previously pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on Islam at his blessed hand. He said: "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), tell me about the matters which you know and of which I am unaware." Then he asked him about the times of the prayer, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "When you have prayed Maghrib, every prayer from then until you pray Fajr is accepted (by Allah) and the angels are present in it. Then (after Fajr) refrain from prayer until the sun has risen high and become fully white and bright, for the sun rises between the two horns of Satan. Then when it has become bright and high, the prayer from then until midday, when the sun approaches its zenith and everything stands within its own shadow, is accepted and attended by the angels; and that is the hour in which Hell is stoked. Then when the sun has passed its zenith, the prayer from then until the sun turns yellow is accepted and witnessed, for the sun sets between the two horns of Satan."
Al-Layth said: Some of my brothers related to me, through al-Maqburi, these words in this same hadith: "Except on Friday, for there is no harm in praying at midday on that day, because Hell is not stoked on it."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Imam Ahmad and other hadith scholars have narrated this text through Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) himself, and this chain is a supporting witness (shahid) for that text. This chain is sahih, except that it contains a break, because it is not established that Awn bin Abdullah heard from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him); however, other hadith besides this one are narrated from him which he related through his father from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
