It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a very old man came, leaning on his staff, until he stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed many acts of treachery and wickedness; can I be forgiven?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah?" He said: "Of course, and I also bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then indeed all your acts of treachery and all your wickedness have been forgiven."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
