It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that one night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to his Companions while they were waiting for the Isha prayer, and he said: "The people have prayed and gone to sleep, and you are still waiting for it? Know that as long as you are waiting for the prayer, you are in a state of prayer." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not for the frailty of the weak and the old age of the elderly, I would certainly have delayed this prayer until half the night."
Imam Ibn Hibban recorded it in his "Sahih" through Imam Abu Ya'la, and Sa'dan bin Nasr also corroborated it from Abu Mu'awiyah (Muhammad bin Khazim).
