It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Envy is so (destructive and powerful) that it almost outstrips destiny, and poverty and want (bring a person to such a grave turn that) it almost becomes disbelief."
This hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed in the Book of Legal Punishments (al-Hudud). Here Imam Ahmad bin Mani' has transmitted it through Yahya bin Sa'id, al-A'mash and Yazid al-Raqashi, with doubt as to whether it is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri or from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him).
