وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ السَّمَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَنْبَسَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ مَوْلَى أُمَيَّةَ ، عَنْ جَنَاحٍ مَوْلَى الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " خَيْرُ الشَّبَابِ مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِكُهُولِكُمْ ، وَشَرُّ كُهُولِكُمْ مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِشَبَابِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of your young people is the one who resembles your mature people (in seriousness and dignity), and the worst of your mature people is the one who adopts the ways of your young people (in foolishness and frivolity)."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad; however, the narrator in its chain, Anbasah bin Abd al-Rahman, is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith) and severely weak.
