حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ هُوَ الشَّعْبِيُّ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا قَدِمَ جَعْفَرٌ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مِنَ الْحَبَشَةِ عَانَقَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "When Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived from Abyssinia (to Madinah, after the emigration), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced him (in welcome)."
[Takhrij: Imam Abu Dawud narrated this hadith in his Sunan (no. 5220). Its chain contains Isma'il bin Abi Mujalid and his father Mujalid bin Sa'id, whose scholarly reliability has been criticised, on account of which the hadith scholars have declared this route da'if (weak); however, other supporting reports of the warm welcome and embrace given by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the return of Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) are found in the books of hadith.]
