حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " زُرْ غِبًّا ، تَزْدَدْ حُبًّا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Visit after leaving a day or so in between (that is, occasionally and at suitable intervals); in this way your mutual affection and love will increase."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this hadith in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and Imam al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman; according to the hadith scholars, although there is criticism of its individual chains, with numerous supporting reports and corroborating chains this hadith reaches the level of hasan (good), and its meaning is entirely correct.
