It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Malik al-Ru'asi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, 'Irda anni' (be pleased with me)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his blessed face away three times (on hearing my request). I said again: "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, indeed even the Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, when His pleasure and approval is sought, becomes pleased; so you too be pleased with me." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) became pleased with me.
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad (2588); its chain contains a narrator named Tariq who is majhul (unknown), on account of which this report is weak in its chain; however, the hadith scholars have cited it under the heading of virtues and merits.
