It is narrated from Imam Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "Indeed, a believer is a part of another believer; his need lies with him; he should bear hardship and trouble for the sake of his brother; he is delighted at his joy and grieved at his sorrow; and he is the mirror of his brother: if he sees in him something he dislikes, he corrects him, straightens him and guides him in the right direction, and he speaks with him and holds him to account in matters of truth, in private and in public, in every situation."
Takhrij: Imam Abdullah bin al-Mubarak narrated this athar in 'al-Zuhd wa al-Raqa'iq' (2529/2540), and Imam al-Bayhaqi also cited it in 'Shu'ab al-Iman'; its chain is jayyid (good).
