وَقَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ : حَدَّثَنَا طَلْحَةُ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " احْتَجَمَ وَسَطَ رَأْسِهِ ، وَسَمَّاهُ الْمُنْقِذَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped (had hijamah done) in the middle of his blessed head, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) named that place (or that procedure) "al-Munqidh" (the rescuer).
Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi recorded it in his Musnad. In its chain Talhah bin Amr is a matruk (abandoned) narrator; however, the basis of having cupping done in the middle of the head is established by other authentic hadith.
