Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 2418 — Melon with fresh dates

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat melon together with fresh ripe dates, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Both of them are good" (that is, both are very wholesome and delicious things).
Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi recorded this hadith in his Musnad. Its chain contains Zam'ah bin Salih, a weak narrator, and an unnamed narrator mentioned only with the words "some of the companions of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him)." However, his (peace and blessings be upon him) eating fruit together with dates is established in other sahih hadith, which support this meaning.
