Abu Bakr (Ibn Abi Shaybah) related; Ibn Numayr narrated to him from Mujalid, from Amir (may Allah have mercy on him), that he asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the cow and the camel: does it suffice (as a sacrifice) on behalf of seven people? Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "How can that be? Does (a single cow or camel) have seven souls?" Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Kufah gave me this very verdict." At this, the people present said: "Yes, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) also said this." Then Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I was not aware of it."
