It is narrated from Ziyad Abu Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: We went to a shaykh named Muhajir, and I was wearing sandals that had two straps. (Ziyad further said:) I had given them up because they were conspicuous. (At this, Shaykh Muhajir) asked: "What is this?" I replied: "I intended to give them up because they are conspicuous." So Shaykh Muhajir said: "Do not give them up, for the sandals of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were like this."
Imam al-Harith said: Ashhal [he is Ibn Hatim] narrated this hadith to us, from Ziyad Abu Umar.
