Azhar bin Rashid relates that when Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to his students a hadith which they could not understand, they would go to al-Hasan (al-Basri) (may Allah have mercy on him), and he would explain it to them. One day al-Hasan (al-Basri) (may Allah have mercy on him) explained to them the hadith "Do not engrave any Arabic word on your rings", saying, that is: "Do not engrave (the blessed name of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)) Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)."
