It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman, the keeper of the water supply (sahib al-siqayah), that he said: Once Ziyad came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and there was a gold ring on his hand. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Have you people taken to (wearing) gold rings?" At this Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "But my ring is of iron." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "That (iron ring) is even more foul-smelling and impure. Whoever of you wishes to wear a ring should wear a ring of silver."
