Muhammad bin Aqil (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that Sayyiduna Aqil (may Allah be pleased with him) killed one of the polytheists on the day of (the Battle of) Mu'tah, and took that (polytheist's) ring and a slave-girl who was with him. Then he brought both of them to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) took the ring and put it on his finger. Then he said: "If only it were not for this engraving (or image) (on the ring)!" After that, he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted Sayyiduna Aqil (may Allah be pleased with him) that ring and slave-girl as nafl (i.e. an additional reward given for exceptional performance in jihad).
