وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ فِي زِيَادَاتِ الزُّهْدِ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، نَا سَيَّارٌ ، ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، نَا عُمَرُ مَوْلَى سَلَّامِ بْنِ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ ، قَالَ : " سَمِعْتُ بَكْرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُزَنِيَّ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْبَصْرَةِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّذِينَ يَلْبَسُونَ لَا يَطْعَنُونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ لَا يَلْبَسُونَ ، وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَلْبَسُونَ لَا يَطْعَنُونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَلْبَسُونَ " .
Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded this narration in his book Ziyadat al-Zuhd, that Ali bin Muslim narrated to him, from Sayyar, from Yazid bin Zuray', from Umar, the freed slave of Sallam bin Abi Muti', who said: I heard Bakr bin Abdullah al-Muzani say in the mosque of Basrah: "Those among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (may Allah be pleased with them all) who wore (fine) clothes did not criticize those who wore (simple) clothes, and those who wore (simple) clothes did not criticize those who wore (fine) clothes."
