It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dressed me in a turban on the day of Ghadir Khumm, letting its tail hang down behind me. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty supported me on the day of Badr and Hunayn with angels who were wearing turbans like this," and he (also) said: "Indeed, the turban is a dividing line between disbelief and faith."
And Abu Bakr and Ahmad bin Mani' both said: Ali bin Hisham narrated to us from Ash'ath bin Sa'id, from Abdullah, from Abu Rashid, who said: I heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dressed me in a turban (in the same way)" (then he narrated the rest of the hadith), except that in this narration the words were: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) let both its ends hang down over my shoulders," and he (also) said: "The turban is a dividing line between the Muslims and the polytheists."
