It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Jarmi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I was sitting with the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), when suddenly an elderly man came. When the people saw him, they said: This is Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him, he said: "Marhaban wa ahlan bi-akhi (Welcome, and a warm welcome to my brother)." [Then Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: "Marhaban wa ahlan bi-akhi (Welcome, and a warm welcome to my brother)."] (Then he said:) By my life, you were very severe in issuing the order (restricting me); but by Allah, had you ordered me to come crawling on my knees, I would certainly have come crawling on my knees for as long as I had the strength.
