قَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، ثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ فَمَرَّ بِأُنَاسٍ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ ، فَاتَّبَعَهُ عَبْدٌ لِامْرَأَةٍ مِنْهُمْ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ : فُلَانٌ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : مَا شَأْنُكَ ؟ قَالَ : أُجَاهِدُ مَعَكَ . قَالَ : أَذِنَتْ لَكَ سَيِّدَتُكَ ؟ قَالَ : لَا . قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهَا وَاقْرَأْ عَلَيْهَا السَّلَامَ . فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهَا وَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهَا السَّلَامَ ، وَأَخْبَرَهَا فَقَالَتْ : آللهِ أَهُوَ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تَقْرَأَ عَلَيَّ السَّلَامَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ . قَالَتِ : ارْجِعْ فَجَاهِدْ مَعَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Abdullah bin Abi Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that during one of his expeditions the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people of the tribe of Muzaynah, and a slave belonging to a woman among them went along with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then when he had reached some point on the road, he greeted him (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Are you so-and-so?" He said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is your intention?" He said: "I want to fight in jihad with you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Has your mistress given you permission?" He said: "No." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back to your mistress and convey my greetings of peace (salam) to her." So he went back to that woman, conveyed the salam to her and told her the whole story. She asked: 'Allahi, a-huwa amaraka an taqra'a 'alayya al-salam?' (By Allah! Did he really order you to convey greetings of peace to me?) He said: "Yes." Then the woman said: "Now go back and fight in jihad together with him."
