It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Kabshah (may Allah be pleased with her), a woman from the tribe of Urayna, a branch of Quda'ah, that she said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Grant me permission to go out with such-and-such an army." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." She said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I do not intend to fight; I only want to treat the wounded and nurse the sick, or (the narrator is in doubt whether she said:) give water to the sick." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not for the fear that this would become an (established) practice, and that it would be said that so-and-so woman went out (on the campaign), I would certainly have given you permission; but stay at home." Imam Abu Ya'la also narrated this report from Imam Abu Bakr (Ibn Abi Shaybah) with the same chain.
