قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى ، ثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مُعَاوِيَةَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ الشَّارِقِ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا اغْبَرَّتْ قَدَمَا عَبْدٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى إِلَّا حَرَّمَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ النَّارَ ، فَمَا رَأَيْتُ أَكْثَرَ مَاشِيًا مِنْ يَوْمِئِذٍ وَنَحْنُ وَرَاءَ الدَّرْبِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any servant whose feet become dusty in the path of Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty makes the Fire of Hell forbidden for him." Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (Because of this virtue) on the day we were beyond the 'Darb' (the frontier pass), I never saw people walking on foot in greater numbers than on that day.
