وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، ثَنَا سَالِمُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ ثَلَاثٌ : مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَرْمِي بِسَهْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى فِي الْعَدُوِّ أَصَابَ أَوْ أَخْطَأَ ، إِلَّا كَانَ أَجْرُ ذَلِكَ السَّهْمِ لَهُ كَعَدْلِ نَسَمَةٍ ، وَمَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ابْيَضَّتْ مِنْهُ شَعَرَةٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى إِلَّا كَانَتْ لَهُ نُورًا تَسْعَى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، وَمَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَعْتَقَ صَغِيرًا أَوْ كَبِيرًا إِلَّا كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللهِ تَعَالَى أَنْ يَجْزِيَهُ بِكُلِّ عُضْوٍ مِنْهُ أَضْعَافًا مُضَاعَفَةً .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "For every Muslim there are three virtues: any Muslim who shoots an arrow at the enemy in the path of Allah Almighty, whether it hits the target or misses, the reward of that arrow for him is equal to freeing a soul; and any Muslim one of whose hairs turns white in the path of Allah Almighty, that hair will be a light for him on the Day of Resurrection, running before him and spreading light; and any Muslim who frees a (slave), young or old, Allah Almighty has made it a binding right upon His generosity to reward him, for every limb of that (slave), many times over."
