قَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبَانَ ، ثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا يَحِلُّ لِمَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ أَنْ يَجْلِدَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ عَشْرِ أَسْوَاطٍ إِلَّا فِي حَدٍّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "It is by no means lawful for anyone who believes in Allah Almighty and the Last Day to give more than ten lashes (as a discretionary punishment), except when this punishment is for carrying out one of the hadd punishments prescribed by Allah."
