It is narrated from Isa bin Jariyah (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man used to bring wine from Khaybar and sell it to the Muslims. Once he arrived in Madinah with goods worth a great amount, and a Muslim man met him and told him: O so-and-so! Wine has now indeed been made unlawful. So he placed that wine right there, on a mound where he had arrived, and covered it with cloaks.
Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have learned that wine has been made unlawful? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He asked: Shall I not return it to those from whom I bought it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is no longer permissible to return it." He said again: Shall I give it as a gift to someone who will give me some wealth in return for it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." He said: The wealth of orphans who are under my care is invested in it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, consoling him: "When the wealth of Bahrain comes to us, we will give your orphans compensation for their wealth."
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) called out: "O people of Madinah!" The man said: O Messenger of Allah! May we put these vessels to our own use? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then undo their ties." So that wine was poured out until it collected in the low-lying part of the valley.
