أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا كَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِ الْمُتَلَاعِنَيْنِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ الْأَرْبَعَةِ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the matter of li'an (husband and wife accusing each other of adultery under oath) was brought before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (Ali) said: "I would not like to be the first of the four (witnesses testifying to the accusation of adultery)."
