Imam Abu Ya'la (may Allah have mercy on him) related that it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the expedition of Tabuk. When we reached the place Thaniyyat al-Wada', he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw lamps lit there and heard women weeping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this matter?" It was said: These are women with whom mut'ah was contracted, and now they are weeping (at the separation). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is now unlawful," or he said: "(The rulings of) marriage, divorce, the waiting period and inheritance have ended the permissibility of mut'ah."
