قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : " إِنَّ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ صَوْتًا فَزِعَ ، فَإِذَا قِيلَ : خِتَانٌ ، أَوْ عُرْسٌ - سَكَتَ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that whenever the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him), heard any (unusual) sound, he would be startled (because of his alertness and sense of responsibility); then, if he was told that it was only a circumcision gathering or a wedding occasion, he would (be reassured and) fall silent.
