Abdullah bin Buraydah reports that two brothers, a Jew and a Muslim, brought their dispute before Yahya bin Ya'mar, and he made the Muslim of the two the heir. He was asked: "Why did you make the Muslim the heir?" He said: Abu al-Aswad narrated to me that a man told him that two brothers, a Jew and a Muslim, brought their dispute before Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him). The Muslim brother said: "My father was a Jew, and he owned wealth and land. My accepting Islam did me no harm in his eyes, to the extent that he entrusted to me all his wealth and the land which I used to cultivate and manage. I used to give charity from it, host guests, do good deeds and free slaves, and he never objected to me for these things. Then he died, and people came between me and his wealth, saying that I had no right to it." So Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) made the Muslim brother the heir.
