It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us; then the narrator mentioned a long hadith in which there is also this saying: "Whoever makes things difficult for his Muslim brother, Allah Almighty will take away his provision from him, ruin his livelihood and leave him to himself; and whoever harms a Muslim is not one of us, and I am free of him in this world and the Hereafter; and whoever, despite being able, puts off his creditor, upon him is a burden like the sin of a tithe-collector ('ashshar)." Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What is the sin of the tithe-collector? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sin of the tithe-collector is that every day the curse of Allah Almighty, the angels and all the people is upon him; and whomever Allah removes far from His mercy, you will never find for him any helper." Clarification: This hadith is mawdu' (fabricated).
