It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave this ruling: "If a hunting dog is killed, its compensation is forty dirhams; for a dog that guards livestock, one goat; for a dog that guards crops, one faraq (a measure) of grain; while for a dog merely kept in a house (without a lawful need), one faraq of dust is to be given. It is binding on the one responsible for the killer to pay it, and binding on the owner of the house to accept it."
The chain of this hadith is extremely weak and feeble to the utmost degree.
