مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُوسُفُ بْنُ مَاهَكَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ ، يَقُولُ : أَقْبَلْتُ مَعَ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، وَكَعْبٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا - مُحْرِمِينَ بِعُمْرَةٍ مِنْ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ، وَأَمِيرُنَا مُعَاذٌ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - وَأَمْرُنَا إِلَيْهِ ، وَهُوَ يَؤُمُّنَا . فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ تَبَرَّزَ مُعَاذٌ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - لِحَاجَتِهِ ، وَخَالَفَهُ رَجُلٌ بِحِمَارِ وَحْشٍ قَدْ عَقَرَهُ ، فَأَخَذَهُ كَعْبٌ ، فَأَهْدَاهُ إِلَى الرُّفْقَةِ . قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ مُعَاذٌ إِلَّا وَقُدُورُ الْقَوْمِ تَغْلِي فِيهَا مِنْهُ . فَسَأَلَ ، فَأُخْبِرَ ، فَقَالَ : لَا يُطِيعُنِي أَحَدٌ إِلَّا كَفَأَ قِدْرَهُ ! . قَالَ : فَكَفَأَ كَعْبٌ وَالْقَوْمُ قُدُورَهُمْ . فَلَمَّا كُنَّا بِبَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ ، وَكَعْبٌ يُصَلِّي عَلَى نَارٍ ، إِذْ مَرَّتْ بِهِ رِجْلٌ مِنْ جَرَادٍ ، فَأَخَذَ جَرَادَتَيْنِ فَقَتَلَهُمَا وَنَسِيَ إِحْرَامَهُ ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ إِحْرَامَهُ فَرَمَى بِهِمَا . فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ دَخَلَ الْقَوْمُ عَلَى عُمَرَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - وَدَخَلْتُ مَعَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ كَعْبٌ : كَيْفَ تَرَى يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ - فَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ قِصَّةَ الْجَرَادَتَيْنِ - ؟ قَالَ : وَمَا بَأْسٌ بِذَلِكَ ، يَا كَعْبُ . قَالَ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : إِنَّ حِمْيَرَ تُحِبُّ الْجَرَادَ ، وَمَاذَا جَعَلْتَ فِي نَفْسِكَ ؟ قَالَ : دِرْهَمَيْنِ . قَالَ : دِرْهَمَانِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ مِائَةِ جَرَادَةٍ ، اجْعَلْ مَا جَعَلْتَ فِي نَفْسِكَ .
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Ammar that he said: I set out from Bayt al-Maqdis with Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ka'b, having entered ihram for Umrah. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) was our leader; we were under his command and he was leading us in prayer. During the journey Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) went away to relieve himself. In the meantime a man met us who had hunted a wild donkey; Ka'b took that meat and gave it to the people of the caravan as a gift. The narrator says: By the time Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, the people's cooking pots were boiling with that meat. He asked, and he was told the situation, whereupon he commanded: "Whoever obeys me, let him overturn his pot!" So Ka'b and the other people overturned their pots. Then, at another stage of the journey, while Ka'b was by a fire, a swarm of locusts passed by there; forgetting his ihram, he caught two locusts and killed them, then when he remembered, he threw them away. On reaching Madinah, when these people came into the presence of Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him), I too was with them. Ka'b related the incident of the locusts and asked: "O Commander of the Faithful, what is your opinion?" He said: "O Ka'b, there is no harm in it." He said: "Yes." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The people of the tribe of Himyar are very fond of locusts. What expiation for it have you thought of in your mind?" He replied: "Two dirhams." He said: "Two dirhams are better than even a hundred locusts. Give what you have decided in your heart."
According to the commentators, Sayyiduna Mu'adh's (may Allah be pleased with him) having the pots overturned was based on piety and caution, so that no doubt of any kind would remain concerning the meat of game in the state of ihram, while Sayyiduna Umar's (may Allah be pleased with him) decision concerned making amends on the basis of forgetfulness and the small quantity.
