وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ، عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَفَ عِنْدَ الْحَجَرِ فَقَالَ : إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَضُرُّ وَلَا تَنْفَعُ ، ثُمَّ قَبَّلَهُ ،ثُمَّ حَجَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَوَقَفَ عِنْدَ الْحَجَرِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَضُرُّ وَلَا تَنْفَعُ ، وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ .
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded, through Khalid bin Makhlad, Sulayman bin Bilal, Sharik bin Abdullah bin Abi Namir and Isa bin Talhah, a report from a Companion of the Messenger that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) standing at the Black Stone, and at that time he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I know well that you are only a stone that can neither harm nor benefit." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) kissed it. Likewise, when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) performed Hajj, he too came to the Black Stone, addressed it and said: "Certainly I know that you are only a stone that has no power to harm anyone or to benefit anyone, and had I not seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kissing you, I would never have kissed you."
