It is narrated from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the pure wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), should a man take off his leather socks every time (he performs ablution)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather he may keep wiping over them for as long as he wishes."
Musnad Abi Ya'la: 111. In its chain, the condition of the narrator Umar bin Ishaq bin Yasar is unknown (mastur); however, the basis of wiping over leather socks is established by other sahih and mutawatir hadith.
