It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him): "During the expedition of Tabuk, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept the leather socks (muqayn) he was wearing on both his feet for three (days and nights) (that is, he wiped over them without taking them off)."
In the chain of this narration, the narrator named Ja'far bin al-Zubayr is da'if (weak) and matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith), so this narration is weak in its chain; however, the period of three days and three nights for the traveller to wipe over leather socks is established by other sahih and reliable hadith.
