قَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَوْنٍ ، ثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ ، ثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ ، ثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ يَطَّلِعُ لَيْلَةَ النِّصْفِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ إِلَى خَلْقِهِ ، فَيَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ كُلِّهِمْ ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ مُشْرِكًا أَوْ مُصَارِمًا . قَالُوا : وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ ، فَيَدْخُلُ رَمَضَانُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ تَعْظِيمًا لِرَمَضَانَ .
It is narrated from Kathir bin Murrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, your Lord turns towards His creation (with special favour) on the night of the fifteenth of Sha'ban and forgives them all, except one who associates partners with Allah or one who cuts off ties (with his Muslim brother, harbouring rancour)." The narrator says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast much in Sha'ban, to the extent that, out of honour and reverence for Ramadan, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the month of Ramadan while fasting.
