It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Alqamah bin Ulathah was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Meanwhile Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to inform him of the prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal! Wait a little; Alqamah is taking his pre-dawn meal." The narrator says: At that time he was taking his pre-dawn meal by eating a head (of an animal).
Imam Abd bin Humayd narrated it with these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was taking his pre-dawn meal. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished his pre-dawn meal, Alqamah bin Ulathah came, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a head (of an animal). Then, while he was eating it, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and then the narrator mentioned the same story as above.
