وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ : إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : إِنِّي أَفْطَرْتُ يَوْمًا فِي رَمَضَانَ . قَالَ : تَصَدَّقْ لِمَا صَنَعْتَ ، وَصُمْ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ ، وَاسْتَغْفِرِ اللهَ تَعَالَى .
It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man came into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have broken a fast of Ramadan (without excuse). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give charity in return for what you have done, fast one day in its place (as a make-up fast), and seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty, saying 'Astaghfirullaha ta'ala' (I seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty)."
