وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو هُوَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ، ثَنَا زَمْعَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ الرُّطَبُ لَمْ يُفْطِرْ إِلَّا عَلَى الرُّطَبِ ، وَإِذَا لَمْ يَكُنِ الرُّطَبُ لَمْ يُفْطِرْ إِلَّا عَلَى التَّمْرِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It was the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that as long as fresh dates were available, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would break his fast only with fresh dates, and when fresh dates were not available, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would break his fast with dry dates."
